A welding transformer is an electrical device used in welding applications to step down the voltage from the power source to a suitable level for welding. The transformer works on the principle of electromagnetic induction, where a changing magnetic field induces an electric current in a nearby conductor.

The welding transformer consists of a primary winding and a secondary winding wrapped around a common magnetic core. The primary winding is connected to the power source, while the secondary winding is connected to the welding electrode.

The transformer steps down the voltage from the power source, which is typically high-voltage AC, to a lower voltage suitable for welding. The secondary winding of the transformer also provides the necessary current to melt the welding material and create a bond between the workpieces.
